SaaS Gets 5x More AI Citations Than Healthcare — New Vertical Data Shows Where Your Industry Stands
2026 · Attrifast — 1,200-Prompt Study Across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini & Perplexity
A 1,200-prompt study across ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Perplexity found that AI citation density is not uniform — it is a vertical problem. SaaS leads with 5.1 blended citations per answer (7.4 on Perplexity alone), followed by legal (4.7), fintech (4.6), and consumer electronics (4.5). Healthcare sits at the bottom with just 2.4 citations per answer — not because AI systems ignore it, but because they concentrate health answers on a small, high-trust pool dominated by NIH, Mayo Clinic, and WebMD.
The structural difference matters more than the raw numbers. In healthcare, the top 10 domains capture 71.2% of all citation slots — breaking in requires displacing an established authority. In SaaS, the top 10 domains capture only 28.4%, with long-tail blogs and editorial reviews (G2, Wirecutter) accounting for 22.3% and 19.3% of citations respectively. Perplexity cites 2.1x more URLs than ChatGPT and 2.7x more than Gemini, making it the highest-ceiling platform for brands outside the healthcare oligopoly. Overall citation density rose 28% from May 2025 to May 2026, with Claude growing fastest at +50%.
