A June 2026 analysis by Notified examined 8,000+ GlobeNewswire-distributed press releases and found that 99.3% were cited by ChatGPT or Claude — with an average time to first citation of just 8 hours. Most citations occurred within the first 24 hours of distribution. Wire distribution is now measurably one of the most reliable GEO tactics available, not because of SEO link equity, but because AI crawlers index major newswires in near-real time and treat them as authoritative primary sources.
Well-structured releases generated 2.6x more AI citations on average than unstructured ones. Owned content (blogs, campaign pages) was 2x more likely to be cited within 30 days when accompanied by a wire-distributed release. One earnings release from American Battery Technology Company generated over 1,600 AI citations in 30 days. The implication: a single well-timed press release can amplify the AI citation potential of your entire owned content library.

Wire distribution isn't sexy, but it's now empirically one of the most reliable ways to get your content in front of AI systems - faster than SEO, more predictable than earned media campaigns. The 8-hour average time to first citation means a well-written release goes from distribution to AI answer within a business day. Most companies I talk to haven't touched their press release strategy since 2018. That's the gap."
