AI Overviews Now Appear on 48% of Queries. Clicks Dropped 30%. Brand Visibility in the Answer Is the New Click.
2026 Data · AI Search Behavior
New 2026 data on AI search behavior confirms what most analytics dashboards are not yet measuring: Google AI Overviews now appear on 48% of tracked queries, serving 75 million daily active users in AI Mode. That coverage is wide enough to affect virtually every keyword category, including transactional and branded queries where brands have historically held strong click-through positions.
The click-through data is the more operationally significant number: users click traditional search results only 8% of the time when an AI summary is present, compared to 15% without one. Search impressions climbed 49% after AI Overviews launched, while CTR dropped 30% in the same period. The search result page is generating more exposure than ever — with less of it converting into visits via traditional links. Brand visibility inside the AI answer is no longer a nice-to-have; it is where the impression value has relocated.
