Only 30% of Brands Stay Visible Across Consecutive AI Answers - New State of AI Search Report
AirOps analyzed how brands maintain (or lose) AI visibility over repeated queries and found a consistency problem most teams haven't measured yet: only 30% of brands remain visible from one AI answer to the next, and just 20% appear across five consecutive runs of the same query. The culprit is content freshness - pages not updated quarterly are 3x more likely to lose citations, and 65% of AI bot activity targets content published within the past year.
The structural findings are equally important. Sequential heading hierarchies correlate with 2.8x higher citation rates, with 87% of cited pages using a single H1. Around 60% of AI Overview citations reference URLs that don't even rank in the top 20 traditional organic results - meaning organic rank and AI citation rank are two separate games that require separate strategies. For brands treating AI visibility as a "set it and forget it" optimization, this data is a wake-up call.
