Google Gives Marketers Their First Direct View of AI Impressions — Inside Search Console
June 2026 · White Bunnie
On June 3, 2026, Google launched dedicated Gen AI performance reports inside Search Console — giving marketers their first direct, platform-provided measurement of how their content appears in AI Overviews and AI Mode. The reports are separate from the standard Performance tab and cover five dimensions: impressions, pages, countries, devices, and dates.
The rollout is currently limited to a subset of websites with no confirmed timeline for broader access. The most critical limitation: there is no click data. An impression inside an AI Overview confirms your URL appeared in the feature — not that any user clicked through. Microsoft's Bing launched similar reporting four months earlier in February 2026 and goes further, including "grounding queries" — the internal search phrases that triggered each citation — which Google does not yet surface. For B2B and SaaS teams, this report unlocks measuring GEO independently from SEO for the first time.
